Swimming

Swimming is mentioned in the sources as one of the activities that supports stamina. There is no separate guidance on how to fix the sensor in the water, or on sensor water resistance, in the sources.

Practical approach

  • Check glucose before and after swimming
  • Hypo help at the edge of the pool
  • If the sensor value does not match how the child feels, or glucose is changing fast → confirm from the fingertip

Pump and sensor in the water

  • Most pumps are not waterproof, so detach for swimming (no more than 2 hours)
  • A waterproof pump is used per the manufacturer's instructions
  • The sensor is usually waterproof, but check your model; reinforce the fixing with extra tape before swimming
  • Long swim (over 2 h): a break from the pool, the pump back on, measurement and a correction dose if needed, then back into the water
